The bodyCushion allows the practitioner to have maximum control over the applied treatments.
The positioning of the
bodyCushion affords the practitioner complete access to body parts and
muscle groups in ways not possible if the patients is lying on a flat table, even using pillows
and rolled towels

The difference is all in the positioning. When prone, body weight is distributed in a way that the
patient has no distinct sense of pressure and the spine is unloaded, decompressed, and the
associated musculature relaxed. The patient is not even subtly or unconsciously guarding, and
can breathe easily with no restriction on the diaphragm. When the patient is in this idealized
face down position, thoracic adjustments happen easily.

The
bodyCushion  yields better, faster results in treating patients than a flat table. Patented,
specific-density construction provides optimal support for reducing pressure and tension in
your clients bodies so that your work will be more effective.  Both you and your patients will
benefit from the
bodyCushion by giving your patiences better results and increasing your
productivity.

Benefits of the bodyCushion:
-Supports the body on its bony structures and cradles the entire body without pressure.
-Allows deep breathing w/ the abdominal recess and face crescent.
-Provides relaxing comfort for the face and neck.
-Decompresses the spine. Shortens relaxes muscles.
-Adjusts to all body sizes and types.
-Effective rehabilitation positioner for back pain.

The
bodyCushion affords you a pain free positioning, relieving stress and allowing for total
relaxation in any position.

Face down on the
bC, the patient is well supported and the lumbar spine is decompressed.

Face up on the
bC, the patients hip and lumbar spine are relieved of supporting pressure.

Side lying, the
bC supports the patient with significantly reduced pressure to the shoulder that
is otherwise compressed in the side posture

The
bodyCushion can also serve to provide seated support.

The bodyCushion and Pregnancy:
bodyCushions support the human form in all of its stages; from infancy to pregnancy, these
specially shaped bolsters are shaped to conform to the positions and lines of the human form
in a way that no flat massage table could ever achieve it eliminates the need for pillows, rolled
towels, and "one size fits all" pregnancy positioners.

"Since using the bodyCushion system in my Mother Massage practice,my pregnant and
postpartum clients report how comfortable they are when lying prone...Even the side-lying
position offers unequalled support and comfort. It’s not unusual to hear comments like "I don’t
feel pregnant any more" or "Can I take these home?"

Pregnancy and Prenatal Massage: A Textbook of Pregnancy, Labor, and Postpartum

Is your body naturally flat? Of course not. Then why should you expect comfort from a flat
surface? Tests have proven that back muscles actually tighten up when lying facedown on a
flat surface! The contoured design of the
bodyCushion was created for maximum comfort and
ultimate relaxation.
Tom Owens
Inventor of the
bodyCushion
Tom, "the father of positioning", has engaged in the pursuit of therapeutic positioning for more
than 25 years. The body positioner known today as the
bodyCushion arose and evolved into
the rudiments of it's current embodiment after the first two years of intensive pursuit. In the
ensuing 23 years this positioning tool has been refined so that today there is a highly
developed, functional body positioner that is used throughout the healing arts. It has been
said that there is no one who knows more about orthopedic positioning. Tom is the
acknowledged pre-eminent master, having explored, examined, researched and tested
various aspects of positioning as a singular career pursuit since 1984.

Tom began practicing massage in 1970. The
bodyCushion arose out his practical therapeutic
applications as a licensed practitioner in Ashland, Oregon in 1986. In 1988 Tom became a CE
Provider, teaching the elements and benefits of positioning for massage and muscle therapy.
For several years Tom traveled to Japan where he presented seminars in positioning to
doctors, physical medicine doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists in major cities
throughout the country. These seminars were based on a book Tom authored and video
series, "New Approaches to Muscle Therapy". In this book Tom demonstrates and describes
seventy different positioning techniques that address and enhance specific therapeutic
challenges.

Tom is now retired and resides in Hawaii. The
bodyCushion continues to be manufactured in a
plant Tom owns in Ashland, Oregon. Tom takes pride in the fact that all the component parts
of the
bodyCushion, as well as the bodyCushion itself are manufactured in the U.S.A. The
bodyCushion is used throughout the healing arts, in hospitals, physical therapy clinics, athletic
training rooms, chiropractic offices, acupuncture and oriental medicine clinics. It is used for
applications of all kinds of massage disciplines including Thai massage, Shiatsu, and prenatal.
It is also prescribable and can be assistive and therapeutic for post-injury or surgery recovery
as well as pregnancy relief. The
bodyCushion is sold and used worldwide in more than 67
countries.
