Vinyl Care & Cleaning Instructions
Body Support Systems uses durable, supple vinyl coverings on its products. The bodyCushion should always be covered with a sheet, towel, or fitted bodyCushion Cotton Covers to prevent contact with skin, oil, or lotion.
Day-to-Day Care & Light Cleaning:
Remove ordinary dirt and smudges with mild soap and warm water solution. Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth or towel. For more difficult stains, we recommend the use of a stronger detergent; however, follow the detergent manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
Special cleaning problems:
The following steps are recommended to clean stains on Body Support Systems’ vinyl coverings. Remove many different stains with these cleaning agents.
Please try them in this order.
Step 1 cleaners:
Nonabrasive household cleaners with a soft cloth or damp sponge.
Formula 409® All-Purpose Spray Cleaner fantastik® Spray Cleaner
Other similar household cleaners and bleaches, rinse the cleaned area with fresh water and dry with a clean cloth.
Step 2 cleaners:
CAUTION: Should you desire to use other cleaning methods, carefully try them in an inconspicuous area to determine potential damage to the material. Never use harsh solvents or cleaners which are intended for industrial applications. We recommend using a soft cloth to clean stained or soiled areas.
Avoid using paper towels, which are often made from recycled materials and contain particles such as ink which can contaminate the cleaning process.
CAUTION: Cleaning products may be harmful/irritating to your skin, eyes, etc. Use protective gloves and eye protection, do not inhale or swallow any cleaning product, protect surrounding area/clothing from exposure. Use in a well-ventilated area.
Follow all product manufacturer’s warnings. Body Support Systems, Inc. cannot be held responsible for damage or injuries resulting from the use or misuse of cleaning products.
Suggested Methods for Cleaning Old, Sticky Vinyl:
You may want to attempt these following methods, but it is important to realize that when the vinyl becomes sticky, which any vinyl will, it is time to replace the vinyl coverings. Stickiness is simply the plasticizer emanating out of the material, which can be hastened in humid climates. Once the plasticizer separates from the vinyl, the vinyl is no longer viable in terms of suppleness and strength.
The cleaning methods below are based on feedback from our customers and are not guaranteed to clean your sticky vinyl. We highly recommend testing your desired cleaning method on an inconspicuous spot first before applying any cleaning product to all of the vinyl.
We also recommend trying method #1 or #2 first, as these methods are more gentle on the vinyl than method #3.
Remove the foam cushions from the vinyl covers. Soak vinyl covers in a solution of laundry detergent and water overnight, scrub the next day with a clean cotton rag. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and air dry.
Remove the foam cushions from the vinyl covers. Using a soft cotton rag, scrub the vinyl covers with a solution of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and water. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and air dry.
Please note: This method may cause the vinyl to become brittle or crack over time. If that is not a concern because your sticky vinyl is unusable as it is, then you might try this method. Only attempt this method outside or in a well-ventilated area, as it may produce powerful odors. Remove the foam cushions from the vinyl covers.
Using a clean cotton rag, quickly rub the vinyl with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). The stickiness may come off as an oily substance. After the rubbing alcohol removes the gunk, wash the vinyl covers in a solution of warm water and Dawn dish detergent. Rinse thoroughly in warm water and air dry.
If the suggested cleaning methods above do not thoroughly clean your sticky vinyl, we sell replacement parts to extend the life of each body Cushion. We offer bodyCushion replacement parts which include new foam and vinyl, and we offer Vinyl Replacement for customers who only need to replace the vinyl coverings on their bodyCushion.
We would love to hear your feedback or personal experiences with cleaning sticky vinyl as it helps us to improve our products and assist other customers continually.
Face Support Base Care & Cleaning Instructions
Avoid exposing the Face Support Base to sunlight as ABS plastics will degrade when exposed to UV light. Essential oils have also been known to degrade plastics; it is best to avoid the use of them directly on the bodyCushion. Avoid citrus oil-based products.
Use a germicidal solution on the Face Support Base. Do not use Armor All®, Formula 409®, Fantastik®, essential oils, baby wipes, or alcohol on our products. Consumer cleaning products are subject to change without notice to the consumer and may contain chemicals which could damage the plastic.
Should you desire to use other cleaning methods, carefully try them in an inconspicuous area to determine potential damage to the material. Never use harsh solvents or cleaners which are intended for industrial applications.
